After a friend recently asked for my top five albums from 2010-2020, in no particular order, it really got me thinking about the incredible music that dropped that decade. Reflecting on it, I realized that the years 2010-2017, in particular, arguably gave us some of the best music across all genres.
For me, a “perfect” album is defined by its profound impact. Can I recall exactly where I was in life when it dropped, and where I first listened to it? While countless albums hold a special place in my heart, very few truly earn the “perfect” label. After much deliberation, my top five are:
- Disclosure – Caracal
- Brent Faiyaz – Sonder Son
- Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
- Kendrick Lamar – good kid, m.A.A.d city
- Justin Bieber – Journals
Of course, there were many honorable mentions that deserve recognition, including Childish Gambino’s Because the Internet, Frank Ocean’s Blonde, Travis Scott’s Rodeo, and The Internet’s Ego Death, among so many others. What ultimately led me to these five selections was the immense impact each had on me as I embarked on my personal music journey. They are all albums I can revisit endlessly without ever skipping a single track.
Now it’s your turn! Let me know your top 5 albums in the comments below, and tell me if you agree with my picks.
